DRDO Successfully Tests VSHORADS Missile off Odisha Coast

The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted three consecutive flight trials of the Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) from Chandipur, off the Odisha coast. The missiles were tested against high-speed, low-altitude targets, effectively intercepting and destroying them in different flight conditions.

The trials were conducted in their final deployment configuration, with two field operators managing weapon readiness, target acquisition, and missile firing. Data collected from telemetry, electro-optical tracking systems, and radar at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, confirmed the system’s pinpoint accuracy and capability to neutralize drones and other aerial threats.

VSHORADS, a Man Portable Air Defence System, has been developed indigenously by the Research Centre Imarat in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories and industry partners. It is designed to meet the operational needs of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Armed Forces, and industry partners on the successful trials, calling it a significant achievement. DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V Kamat also praised the team for their efforts.
