BMC collects 5,786 tonnes of waste in Mumbai

Currently, the Solid Waste Management Department of BMC is actively conducting a collective cleaning drive in small roads, alleys, slums, and similar areas within its jurisdiction, in collaboration with other departments. In light of the ongoing Ganapati festival, special attention is being given to cleaning areas around Ganapati pandals (temporary shrines) and immersion spots, with operations running day and night.

To bolster this campaign, 449 additional personnel have been mobilised, including 429 individuals from non-government organisations and 20 contract workers, in addition to the regular civic body employees. The BMC has also deployed 181 additional machines such as JCBs and dumpers, complementing its daily fleet of vehicles from the Solid Waste Management Department.

This intensified focus on cleanliness comes after Chief Minister Eknath Shinde personally observed a road near Mazgaon filled with garbage and dirt, prompting him to direct the BMC to prioritise the city's cleanliness.
