Green ammonia plant in Andhra Pradesh set to boost clean energy exports

Andhra Pradesh is moving ahead with a large green hydrogen and green ammonia project at Kakinada with an estimated investment of around Rs 10 billion, marking one of India’s most significant clean energy initiatives. The project, being developed by AM Green, involves converting an existing ammonia-urea complex and is planned to produce up to 1.5 million tonnes of green ammonia annually by 2030.

Construction activities have already begun, with key equipment erection expected to mark an important milestone. Once operational, the facility is projected to generate substantial employment during both the construction and operations phases.

The project will be integrated with large-scale renewable power, electrolysers and round-the-clock green energy supported by pumped hydro storage. This integrated setup is expected to enable India’s first large-scale exports of green ammonia to international markets including Europe and East Asia.

The development supports Andhra Pradesh’s strategy to emerge as a major hub for green hydrogen and green ammonia production, strengthening India’s position in the global clean energy value chain while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
