Modi Inaugurates Rs 42 Billion Mahi Banswara Nuclear Project

The 2,800 MW Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (MBRAPP), being developed by a Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) and NTPC joint venture, will be one of the largest nuclear plants in India with an estimated investment of Rs 420 billion. The project is set to deliver reliable base load power, NTPC said on Thursday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the nuclear project along with other energy projects worth over Rs 510 billion in Rajasthan. He laid the foundation stone for the 4x700 MW MBRAPP, being executed by joint venture company Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Ltd (ASHVINI), where NPCIL holds 51 per cent and NTPC 49 per cent. Both partners will pool financial, technological and project expertise for the development.
The project marks NTPC’s entry into nuclear power and is expected to significantly enhance India’s nuclear energy capacity, while providing clean, affordable and reliable power to Rajasthan and other beneficiaries. It is also expected to create substantial employment opportunities and stimulate local economic growth.
In addition, Modi inaugurated the RSDCL Nokh Solar Park (925 MW) at Phalodi, where NTPC is developing 735 MW. Meanwhile, Avaada Group announced that the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for its 1,560 MWp solar plus 2,500 MWh storage project at Pugal and a 200 MW (282 MWp) solar project at Dungargarh.
Together, Avaada’s two projects represent an investment of over Rs 92 billion in Rajasthan’s renewable energy sector. They are expected to create more than 1,600 green jobs, cut 2 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually and conserve about 6 billion litres of water through robotic cleaning systems.
