Power Grid Corporation Wins Karnataka Transmission Project

Power Grid Corporation of India has emerged as the successful bidder for a transmission project awarded through a tariff-based competitive bidding process to strengthen the Tumkur-II node and enable integration of two point seven gigawatt (GW) of additional renewable energy capacity. The company said it received the letter of intent on one April 2026 and that the project will be executed on a build, own, operate and transfer basis. The award marks a continuation of the company's role in national grid expansion and renewable integration.

The scope of work comprises setting up a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line and augmentation of infrastructure at the Tumkur-II pooling station in Karnataka, including interconnecting transformers and associated bays. The project will interconnect new generation capacity and reinforce evacuation corridors to support increased renewable flows.

Power Grid Corporation of India is a Maharatna central public sector undertaking and is India's largest electric power transmission company. It reported a consolidated net profit in the third quarter of fiscal year twenty six that rose eight point four per cent year on year to Rs 41,849.6 mn from Rs 38,616.3 mn in the corresponding quarter of the prior year. Revenue from operations increased ten point three per cent year on year to Rs 123,950.9 mn in the quarter ended 31 December 2025.

The scrip slipped two point three four per cent and was trading at Rs 286 on the BSE. The company indicated that the project will reinforce transmission capacity in Karnataka, improve grid resilience and facilitate accelerated uptake of renewable generation. Execution on a BOOT basis is expected to deliver long term operational control to the company while eventual transfer will return assets to the procurer.
