Sunsure Commissions 82.5 MW Solar Plant In Uttar Pradesh

Sunsure Energy, a renewable energy solutions provider, has commissioned an 82.5 MW open access solar power plant in Erach village of Jhansi district, Uttar Pradesh—its tenth project in the state.
The project is expected to generate 128 million units of power annually and offset more than 2.20 million tonnes of CO₂e over its lifetime. It will supply green power to industries including Haldiram’s, APL Apollo, and one of India’s largest data centres, strengthening Sunsure’s role in supporting Uttar Pradesh’s clean energy transition.
With this addition, Sunsure’s operational capacity in the state has grown to 260 MW of open access solar plants across Agra, Banda, Mahoba, Jhansi, and Chitrakoot. Since its first 15 MW project in Pailani in 2021, the company has achieved nearly 300 MW of capacity—a 20-fold expansion in just four years.
Shashank Sharma, founder, chairman and CEO of Sunsure Energy, said the state’s Solar Energy Policy 2022 has enabled large-scale investments through open access projects, rooftop solar, and third-party power sales. Supportive provisions such as duty waivers and banking incentives have encouraged independent power producers to scale up cost-competitive green energy solutions, including storage-backed models.
Sunsure is now developing integrated solar plus battery energy storage systems (BESS), with a 125 MW/500 MWh project recently secured through an NTPC bid. The company targets 500 MW capacity by FY26 under its ‘UP Shakti’ initiative to power the state’s industrial growth with reliable clean energy.
Founded in 2014 and backed by Partners Group AG with a $400 million equity commitment, Sunsure Energy is building one of the largest industrial decarbonisation platforms in India and Southeast Asia. It currently operates 600 MW of assets, with 7.5 GW under development across states including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh, aiming for a 10 GW portfolio by 2030.
