Noida authority demolishes 50 farmhouses on Yamuna

In the wake of extensive flooding earlier this year, the Noida Authority launched its first anti-encroachment drive, resulting in the demolition of approximately 50 illegal farmhouses situated on the Yamuna floodplains in Sector 151. These farmhouses, spanning several acres, had encroached upon the floodplain, with owners constructing concrete structures and operating commercial activities from these locations.

Following heavy rainfall in July, the Yamuna River inundated farmhouses and colonies along its banks, necessitating a four-day rescue operation involving the NDRF, local police, district administration, and the Noida Authority to evacuate both residents and livestock from the affected areas. Subsequently, the Noida Authority, in collaboration with the district administration and the irrigation department, formulated a plan to address the issue of encroachment by these farmhouses once the floodwaters had receded.

An aerial survey conducted by relevant agencies helped identify the illegally-constructed farmhouses, leading to the recent demolition drive. This operation underscores the Noida Authority's commitment to reclaiming public land and preserving floodplains for environmental and safety considerations.
