PMAY-Urban: Around 3.88 lakh low-cost houses built in Andhra Pradesh

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban (PMAY-U), as many as 3.88 lakh low-cost houses have been built in Andhra Pradesh in the last three financial years, the government told the media.

Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore said that since 2018-19, the Centre had released support of Rs 6,807.72 crore for the construction of low-cost houses in the state.

According to the central government, as many as 29,731 houses have been constructed during the same period in Delhi.

Kishore said that under the PMAY (U), a sum of 3,88,309 low-cost houses have been built in Andhra Pradesh in the last three financial years since 2018-19.

He also said that according to the 69th round of surveys of the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), Ministry of Statistics, and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), the estimated number of slums in the country is 33,510.

According to the 69th round of the survey of NSSO, there are 4,539 slums with a population of 1,01,86,934 in Andhra Pradesh, he further added.

The Department of Expenditure and Ministry of Finance released the third monthly instalment of the Post Devolution Revenue Deficit (PDRD) grant of Rs 9,871 crore to 17 states in 2021-22. The RBI Monetary Policy 2021 maintains a growth supportive stance. Industry body Assocham told the media that the construction industry is likely to resume operations from mid-June. The Central government gave approval to 708 proposals for construction of 3.61 lakh houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U).
