Chandrababu Naidu Unveils Vision to Build Amaravati Beyond Hyderabad

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu outlined an ambitious plan to develop Amaravati into a world-class capital capable of surpassing Hyderabad. Delivering the address at the South Asia Learning Summit hosted by the Indian School of Business (ISB) in Gachibowli, he presented a roadmap focused on technology, infrastructure and sustained long-term growth. The plan prioritises smart city principles and adoption of advanced systems to improve urban management.

Naidu criticised the previous administration for neglecting Amaravati and said the capital had lost valuable time and momentum under earlier stewardship. He committed his government to rebuilding the capital with contemporary technology and planning that meet global standards. Reflecting on his earlier tenure, he recalled the role he played in transforming Hyderabad into a major information technology hub and the efforts to attract multinational companies.

He noted that institutions established during his prior administration, including the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) and the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), alongside the Indian School of Business (ISB), helped to shape the regional knowledge economy. He emphasised that the present era is driven by artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing and space technologies and that Andhra Pradesh is moving quickly to adopt these innovations. The state is focusing on data centres, drones, air ambulance services and advanced digital infrastructure while strengthening data security and policy frameworks.

Naidu acknowledged lessons from past political setbacks and stated that development alone does not guarantee electoral success, arguing that governments must balance growth with welfare and respond to immediate needs. He highlighted progress in the energy sector, saying Andhra Pradesh has overcome power shortages and is moving towards surplus capacity while emerging as a leader in green energy in South India. He reaffirmed his commitment to build Amaravati as a modern, sustainable and globally recognised capital aimed at creating opportunities so future generations become job creators rather than job seekers.
