ICCC Goes Live in Tirupati With Data Driven Monitoring

An Integrated Command and Control Centre has gone live in Tirupati under the Smart City project, consolidating multiple urban services on a single technology platform. The centre has been developed by NEC Corporation India Pvt Ltd in consortium with KELTRON at a revised cost of Rs 1.2 bn and will provide continuous oversight of city operations. The platform is designed to enable 24x7 surveillance, traffic management, emergency response and monitoring of municipal services across the city.

About 400 CCTV cameras are being installed at 135 locations, including those managed by the police and the municipal corporation, with additional coverage on the zoo park–Alipiri stretch. Pan-tilt-zoom cameras have been deployed to permit continuous tracking at key points and to support operational decision making. The network is intended to improve situational awareness for field teams and to provide evidence for enforcement actions.

The traffic management module integrates an adaptive control system with red light violation detection at 20 junctions and automatic number plate recognition at six locations to aid enforcement and vehicle identification. The configuration is intended to streamline traffic flow and assist law enforcement in incident response. E-challan generation will be supported directly from the platform to speed penalty processing.

A geographic information system platform has been incorporated for city-level data mapping while environmental sensors will monitor temperature, humidity, air quality and pressure to inform public health and planning. The system also provides sanitation monitoring and automated detection of garbage dumping to target waste management efforts. Data from these modules will be combined to allow coordinated municipal interventions and improve resource allocation.

Local officials said the centre would enable real-time monitoring and quicker response to incidents across Tirupati and would strengthen traffic regulation and crime control. The district collector reported that about 80 per cent of the works have been completed and that the system is expected to be fully operational within two months. Municipal authorities indicated the platform will also support enforcement of penalties for violations, including waste dumping.
