POWERCHINA Strengthens Global Workforce Through Cultural Integration

Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA or the Company), which manages multiple infrastructure projects across six continents, continues to emphasise meaningful connections that encourage cultural exchange and shared development. Through local employment, cross-cultural integration, community activities, environmental protection initiatives, and employee development, the Company promotes inclusive growth while demonstrating a strong commitment to people, society, and culture.

Across POWERCHINA’s overseas operations, trust is built through actions rather than hierarchy. Maqbul from Bangladesh recalled how his Chinese supervisor consistently showed respect through simple gestures—such as standing during meetings until invited to sit. Initially unexpected, Maqbul later understood that his supervisor was acknowledging his seniority as a fellow engineer. “You are at least 10 years senior,” the supervisor had explained. Experiences like these have strengthened Maqbul’s pride in being part of POWERCHINA’s global team.

POWERCHINA regards cultural diversity as an essential bridge for cooperation. Cultural festivals, bilingual celebrations, and cross-cultural events held in locations such as Dubai and Brazil—ranging from Ramadan and Chinese New Year to monthly birthday gatherings—help the Company foster mutual respect and collaboration among Chinese and local employees. Language classes, heritage awareness sessions, and cultural exchanges further support a unified workplace environment.

Beyond celebrations, this cultural understanding is translated into empowerment by appointing local professionals to technical and managerial leadership roles. In Vietnam, local engineers contribute to strategic planning and benefit from partnerships with leading universities to nurture globally aware yet locally rooted talent. Deputy General Director Ngo Thi Cam Tu noted that assigning leadership roles to local staff has strengthened communication, decision-making, and project performance. In Brazil, Country Representative Tharcizio observed that empowering local professionals in key management and technical positions has enhanced integration, communication, and overall decision-making in collaboration with strategic Chinese managers.

The spirit of respect extends to local laws and governance frameworks. Jnana Ranjan Pradhan, a marine site engineer in Dubai, highlighted POWERCHINA’s strict compliance with labour regulations and environmental requirements, including mandatory permits for marine dredging. The Company also supports cultural sensitivity through adjusted work hours and dedicated prayer spaces during Ramadan. In Côte d’Ivoire, project employee Alex Freddy shared that transparent discussions on labour contracts—based on employee feedback—reflect POWERCHINA’s commitment to respecting local laws and employment systems.

POWERCHINA’s dedication to trust, respect, and shared progress is equally evident in its teamwork, resilience and focus on employee well-being. While working on Dubai’s Hassyan Project, Pradhan overcame environmental challenges to maintain zero violations. Responsible for safeguarding wetlands, mangroves, and sea turtles, he managed environmental permits and coordinated monthly audits with Dubai Municipality. In Lesotho, POWERCHINA collaborated with a Chinese medical team to provide free healthcare services to employees and residents in remote highland areas. Project employee Sechaba Masekhoane shared that his first experience with acupuncture offered genuine relief and demonstrated the Company’s concern for its people.

Collectively, these stories highlight how POWERCHINA is transforming respect into enduring relationships, diversity into collaboration, and challenges into shared success—cultivating a global team grounded in trust, understanding, and common growth.
