Vedanta Aluminium Supports 20,000 Farmers with Sustainable Agri Practices

Vedanta Aluminium has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening rural livelihoods by empowering over 20,000 farmers across Odisha and Chhattisgarh through technology-enabled and sustainable farming practices. Marking National Farmers Day (Kisan Diwas), the company highlighted steady progress in improving productivity, soil health, water security and income resilience through science-backed agricultural interventions.

Of the farmers supported, more than 12,000 are women and over 8,000 are men, underlining Vedanta Aluminium’s focus on inclusive development. Implemented across Jharsuguda and Kalahandi districts in Odisha and Korba in Chhattisgarh, the initiatives have delivered an average 15–20 per cent increase in productivity and an 18–22 per cent rise in farm incomes through sustainable cultivation methods, reduced input costs and diversified livelihood options.

The company’s programmes integrate traditional farming knowledge with modern science. Key initiatives such as Mor Jal Mor Maati in Chhattisgarh and VedGram and Sangam in Odisha promote climate-smart agriculture, regenerative practices and water resource strengthening. Vedanta Aluminium has also signed MoUs with institutions including ICAR-CTCRI to explore the use of red mud as a sustainable soil conditioner, and partnered with NABARD to advance rural skilling and agricultural innovation.

Digital tools play a central role, with solutions such as AI-enabled spray guns, automated weather and water stations, and smart livestock monitoring collars enabling precision farming and improved animal health management.

Commenting on the initiative, Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said the company’s engagement with farming communities reflects a broader vision of aligning industrial growth with rural prosperity, particularly in agriculture-intensive regions.

In Odisha, interventions have reached over 12,000 farmers across more than 60 villages through soil health improvement, water conservation, agri-horticulture and System of Rice Intensification (SRI) techniques to boost paddy yields while reducing water use. In Chhattisgarh, the Mor Jal Mor Maati programme has supported over 8,000 farmers across 40 villages, focusing on water security, mechanisation and allied livelihoods such as lac cultivation.

Vedanta Aluminium’s initiatives complement national priorities under schemes promoting scientific soil management, digital agriculture and farmer-friendly technologies. Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the company is also advancing circular economy measures including crop-residue utilisation, biofuel pilots and renewable energy integration.

These agricultural programmes form part of Vedanta Aluminium’s wider social impact agenda spanning education, healthcare, skill development and women’s empowerment, reaching over seven lakh beneficiaries across Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
