Ghaziabad Plans 16km Metro Link To Delhi Via Hindon Airport

Ghaziabad authorities are pursuing a 16 km metro link to Delhi that will run via Hindon Airport, and a detailed project report is under way. The plan is intended to improve connectivity between Ghaziabad and the national capital and to provide an interchange with the airport. Officials said the project is being studied to assess alignments, station locations and cost estimates ahead of formal approvals and tendering.

The announcement follows the inauguration of the Delhi?Faridabad metro extension, which will offer hassle free travel for around 0.2 mn daily commuters between the national capital and the industrial hub in Haryana. The extension links Badarpur and Escorts Mujesar in Faridabad and was reported to have cost nearly Rs 25 billion (bn). Funding was shared with the Haryana Government bearing Rs 15.57 bn, the Centre contributing Rs 5.37 bn and the Delhi Metro providing Rs 4 bn.

The nine stations on the Faridabad corridor include Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 28, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Neelam Chowk Ajronda, Bata Chowk and Escorts Mujesar. All stations are elevated and are located along the Delhi?Mathura Road (NH-2). Authorities noted the corridor was constructed with domestic technology and local suppliers supplying most components, with about 95 per cent indigenisation reported in works and equipment procurement.

Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar expressed gratitude to the national leadership and said the new metro service would elevate the city and improve links with other towns in the National Capital Region. He indicated that further announcements on extending metro connectivity, including a proposed link between Gurgaon and Faridabad, would be forthcoming. Officials said studies and inter government consultations will determine timelines and alignments before construction begins.
