Training Aircraft Forced Landing Near Belagavi Airport

M/s Redbird Flight Training Academy's Cessna 172 aircraft VT-EUC was involved in a forced landing in an open field near Vijayapura while operating a cross country flight from Kalaburagi to Belagavi on eight February 2026. The landing occurred after the aircraft experienced suspected fuel starvation and the site was reported to be 50 to 70 km from Belagavi Airport. Two persons were on board, a flight instructor and a trainee pilot, and both occupants were reported safe though the aircraft sustained damage on impact.

The aircraft is operated by a Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will conduct further investigation. The organisation is a Directorate General of Civil Aviation approved Flying Training Organisation, approval number 01/2020, and the organisation's initial approval was issued on 23 July 2020. The approval was last renewed on 23 July 2025 and is valid until 22 July 2030, and the academy operates a fleet of 48 aircraft.

The Cessna was manufactured in 1975 and its certificate of registration was issued on 23 May 2023 with the aircraft operating under the training organisation. The certificate of airworthiness was issued on 20 September 2023 and the airworthiness review certificate was issued on 01 August 2025, valid until 03 August 2026. The aircraft's time since new is recorded as 17512:40 and its engine is a Lycoming O320-E2D with 802:10 hours.

The pilot in command was the flight instructor, who is a CPL holder, and the instructor's last medical examination was on 18 March 2025 with validity until 19 March 2026. The instructor has flown 734 hours and the last instrument rating or proficiency check was completed on 25 July 2025. There were no fatalities and local emergency services assisted at the site.

The ministry said the occupants were safe and the aircraft was damaged on impact, and it said investigations by the DGCA and the AAIB will determine the circumstances. The Press Information Bureau in Delhi issued the release and provided regulatory details. Further updates will follow after completion of inquiries.
