Assam CM Opens Rs 830-Mn Jamunamukh Overbridge

Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister, Assam, inaugurated the newly constructed railway overbridge at Jamunamukh in Hojai district. Built at a cost of around Rs 830 million, the 951-metre structure includes a 7.5-metre-wide motorable carriageway, according to an official release.

During the visit, he also virtually inaugurated the Model High School at Balijuri Tea Estate and the Jagannath Community Halls and Skill Centres at Kandali, Dhantola and Sagunbahi Tea Estates. Foundation stones were laid for new buildings at Barhampur Higher Secondary School and Jamunamukh Higher Secondary School, in addition to several flood-protection and road-connectivity initiatives under the Nagaon Water Resources Division.

The projects include flood-protection works along the right bank of the Kopili river from Jamunamukh–Chikamari to Milonpur and from Jamunamukh to Patiapam, as well as multiple stretches along the left bank from Bakulguri to the Jamunamukh RCC bridge, Jamunamukh bridge to Premjan–Gosaigaon, Gosaigaon to Chaibuk village, and Pub-Kawoimari to Borchung. Anti-erosion measures on the Haria river from Palsa to Pub Tetelisara were also launched.

Addressing a public gathering, the Chief Minister said the new overbridge will ease travel between Dabaka, Kampur and Jamunamukh railway stations. He added that the Water Resources Department has taken up projects worth about ₹80 crore to curb recurring floods in Barhampur and Jamunamukh, noting that the planned embankments would offer long-term relief once completed.

He highlighted ongoing development efforts in Barhampur, pointing to recently inaugurated flyovers at Chaparmukh and Kampur and road and stadium projects valued at around ₹350 crore. The Chief Minister said that development momentum had slowed before the current government took office, but infrastructure and welfare delivery have since been strengthened. The new school buildings, he added, will each be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹6–8 crore.
