BRO To Take Up Blacktopping of Sua Number One To Pargwal

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary informed the Legislative Assembly that the blacktopping of the road from Sua number one to Pargwal in Akhnoor will be undertaken by the Border Roads Organization (BRO). This information was provided while replying to a question raised by legislator Mohan Lal, and the Deputy Chief Minister indicated that the road is proposed to be handed over to the BRO for upgradation and blacktopping. Officials reported that the formal transfer of responsibility from the Public Works (R&B) Department to the BRO is under process.

The planned transfer is expected to enable a coordinated approach to road improvement, drawing on the BRO's experience in upgrading and maintaining routes in challenging terrain. Local authorities view the blacktopping as likely to improve all-weather connectivity, reduce travel times and support economic activity in adjoining areas without specifying a start date. Work is anticipated to enhance safety and reliability on a route that connects residential and commercial zones within the Akhnoor subdistrict.

Administrative formalities and interdepartmental coordination were described as necessary steps before physical works commence and funds are mobilised. The transfer process is being handled through existing government procedures, with responsibility shifting from the Public Works (R&B) Department to the BRO once approvals are complete. Officials indicated that subsequent planning will include surveys, estimates and scheduling of the blacktopping work to align with regional priorities.

The decision to allocate the project to the BRO forms part of ongoing efforts by the territorial administration to upgrade road infrastructure and improve service delivery across the region. Stakeholders emphasised the importance of sustained maintenance following completion to secure the long term benefits of the investment. The Assembly record shows the matter was raised through a legislator's query and handled within parliamentary procedure.
