Navratna PSU RVNL Lowest Bidder for Rs 5.54 Bn NHAI Project

Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL), a Navratna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, has secured a significant infrastructure project from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The company has been awarded a Rs 5.54 billion contract for the construction of a six-lane access-controlled connectivity road in Andhra Pradesh. This road will link the Sabbavaram bypass, part of the Anakapalli-Anandapuram corridor, to the Sheelanagar junction of NH-516C.

The project will be implemented under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), a financing structure that combines government and private sector investments to share risks and ensure timely execution. Once completed, the road is expected to improve connectivity to Visakhapatnam Port, facilitating smoother transportation and enhancing trade and logistics operations in the region.

This development highlights RVNL’s expanding role in the infrastructure sector, particularly in roads and highways. Traditionally focused on railway projects, the company has been diversifying its portfolio to align with the government’s emphasis on infrastructure development. This contract strengthens RVNL’s position in the highways segment, reinforcing its capability to undertake large-scale projects beyond the rail sector.
