NHAI Awards Contract For Bhubaneswar Capital Region Ring Road

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has awarded a contract for the construction of the Bhubaneswar Capital Region Ring Road project, signalling a major infrastructure push in the region. The decision follows completion of procurement and technical evaluation stages and is intended to expedite project delivery. The contract award is expected to mobilise resources and initiate preparatory works shortly. The project is part of wider efforts to modernise road infrastructure across the state.

The ring road is planned to improve orbital connectivity around the capital region and to reduce traffic congestion within urban areas. Planners anticipate enhanced movement of goods and people, improved last mile connectivity and support for planned urban expansion. The project is expected to catalyse economic activity by improving access to industrial estates and logistics hubs. Stakeholders expect the scheme to reduce travel time for commuters and freight.

NHAI indicated that the contractor will undertake detailed design, construction and maintenance responsibilities under the terms of the contract, with oversight from designated project management teams. The alignment will include grade separated interchanges and intersections designed to maintain traffic flow and to enhance safety, while incorporating provisions for future capacity augmentation. Environmental and social safeguards will be addressed during the implementation phase as part of statutory clearances. Design standards will conform to national specifications and best practice.

Funding arrangements and implementation timelines will be finalised in accordance with regulatory approvals and agency protocols, with phased mobilisation envisaged to manage traffic disruptions. Authorities will monitor progress through established performance metrics and periodic reviews to ensure adherence to quality and schedule parameters. The award of the contract marks a significant step towards strengthening regional infrastructure and improving urban mobility in the Bhubaneswar capital region. Community consultation will form part of the preparatory activities prior to major works.
