Delhi Faridabad Metro Extension Flagged Off

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off an extension of the Delhi Metro that links Badarpur with Escorts Mujesar in Faridabad, enabling hassle-free travel for 200,000 daily commuters between the national capital and the industrial hub in Haryana. The project was opened to public mobility after completion of the corridor and was described by officials as a step to improve regional connectivity and urban transit in the National Capital Region.

The total cost of the section from Badarpur to Escorts Mujesar was nearly Rs. 25 bn. The Haryana government bore Rs. 15.57 bn, the Centre contributed Rs. 5.37 bn and the Delhi Metro Corporation provided Rs. 4 bn towards the project. Officials noted that funding arrangements reflected intergovernmental collaboration to expedite completion and to ensure operational readiness of the new link.

The section comprises nine stations: Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 28, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Neelam Chowk Ajronda, Bata Chowk and Escorts Mujesar. All stations are elevated and are located on either side of the Delhi-Mathura Road (NH-2). Officials added that the nine-station corridor was 95 per cent indigenously built and that the new service would provide a safer, affordable and environmentally friendly transport alternative for commuters.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and said the Metro service would take the city to another level of progress by improving connectivity with other towns in the National Capital Region. He also indicated that the Prime Minister would announce approval to connect Gurgaon with Faridabad by Metro, reflecting plans to expand the regional network. Officials said the extension was expected to support urban mobility and economic activity in the surrounding areas. City planners said the line would help alleviate congestion and shorten travel times for commuters along the corridor.
