Indian Railways plans to expand network to Arunachal's Tawang

In light of India's security strategy towards the Line of Actual Control (LAC) along the India-China border, and in order to assist the Indian army in pushing its men and equipment into the border, the Indian Railways has planned to expand its railway network to Tawang and other parts of the Northeast frontier state of Arunachal Pradesh.

According to Anshul Gupta, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway, the final location survey report has already been sent to higher authority.

"The Defence Ministry also held its first meeting, and they agreed on two other projects: Bame-Aalo up to Mechuka and Pasighat-Parshuram-Wakro. These three projects have already been approved and their survey has also been completed. Our target is to complete the Pasighat new line work by March 2025,” Anshul Gupta said.

The General Manager of NF Railway stated that the NF Railway is attempting to complete the work of rail connectivity to Aizawl by December of this year.

The Sikkim construction will be finished by December 2024, and the train will run to Serima in Nagaland in September of this year. We plan to finish the railway project from Serima to Kohima by March 2024.

Anshul Gupta stated, "There is an umbrella project of border and hilly area connectivity projects worth Rs 1.20 lakh crore aiming to connect some important towns and border areas of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, and Sikkim, and we are working on it with the state government, different organisations, and the Indian army."
