Upgraded new Jalpaiguri railway station to offer world-class amenities

Indian Railways is working tirelessly to upgrade its infrastructure across the network. It was mentioned that the modernisation of railway stations is in full swing. In this regard, it was noted that the redevelopment of New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station deserves special mention.

It was mentioned that NJP is o¬ne of the largest as well as busiest railway stations of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone. It was pointed out that it falls under the jurisdiction of Katihar Division and serves as a crucial point for all the North-eastern states. It was further mentioned that the foundation stone for the facelift had been laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 30, 2022.

It was explained that the New Jalpaiguri railway station will be upgraded with world-class features in order to provide better, additional, and enhanced passenger amenities. It was stated that the station is being redeveloped at an estimated cost of Rs 3.34 billion and the work for the up-gradation has already commenced.

It was noted that several infrastructural works had been completed at the NJP railway station. These included the foundation of the Secondary Station and Arrival-1 building, the shifting of UTS cum Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and MCO office, the casting of a test pile for the elevated road, and the commissioning of the Site office and conference room. It was informed that the railways had set a target to complete the entire upgradation work by 2025.

It was stated that the station is being designed in such a way that the passengers will have an airport-like feel and comfort. It was mentioned that it will have ultra-modern amenities such as a large covered parking area, an air-conditioned lobby, round-the-clock electricity, high-speed escalators, lifts, offices, shops, drinking water, an air concourse, hotels, and so on.
