APTransco Accelerates Rs 50 Billion Power Projects

Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (APTransco) has accelerated work on power infrastructure projects worth Rs 50 billion (bn) across the state, aiming to reinforce the grid and improve supply reliability. The state transmission utility said the portfolio comprises a mix of transmission lines, substations and feeder augmentation to address load growth and reduce technical losses. APTransco has prioritised expedited procurement and construction to shorten completion schedules.

The programme focuses on modernising ageing lines, adding capacity at key substations and strengthening interregional links to support both urban demand and rural electrification. Work will include the erection of high-capacity lines, augmentation of transformer capacity and the replacement of obsolete equipment to enhance system stability. Engineering teams are coordinating phased execution to limit disruption to consumers.

The accelerated scheme forms part of the corporation's capital expenditure drive and is expected to support industrial expansion and agricultural supply reliability without specifying new tariffs. Project management units have been established to monitor milestones, quality and safety and to engage certified contractors for specialised tasks. The corporation has emphasised adherence to statutory clearances and environmental safeguards while pursuing faster delivery.

Officials report that enhanced transmission capacity will reduce congestion, enable better integration of intermittent generation and improve load balancing across regions. The corporation plans regular updates on progress and will coordinate with distribution companies and state agencies to align commissioning schedules. The intent is to deliver tangible reliability improvements and to support economic activity through a more resilient transmission network.

The corporation has also prioritised workforce training and capacity building to ensure long term operational efficiency. Routine maintenance schedules and condition monitoring will accompany new commissioning to preserve asset life and performance. Community outreach and coordination with local authorities will be maintained to address right of way and civic concerns during roll out.
