PM Hails Three Million Households Adopting Rooftop Solar

The Prime Minister lauded the achievement of empowering three million (mn) households with rooftop solar power under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, describing the milestone as commendable for the nation's clean energy transition. He conveyed appreciation for beneficiaries who have adopted rooftop solar and noted that the uptake reflects growing citizen engagement with distributed renewable energy. The Government framed the development as contributing to savings for households and to broader sustainability objectives. Officials said the scale of household level adoption represents a notable shift towards distributed generation at scale.

Officials said the initiative is contributing to greater energy self-reliance and is aligned with national goals to make the power system more resilient and environment-friendly. The Prime Minister emphasised that the scheme forms an integral part of efforts to build an energy-secure, green and future-ready India, and that household-level deployment of solar panels strengthens decentralised energy infrastructure. Authorities highlighted that increased rooftop capacity can reduce reliance on conventional generation and support long-term climate commitments.

Observers noted that household rooftop installations generally lower electricity bills by offsetting consumption and that such measures complement grid decarbonisation. The scheme's reach into urban and rural areas was described as evidence of inclusive adoption, with beneficiaries drawn from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Implementation involves coordination between central and state agencies and aims to simplify access to technology and financing for citizens.

The Prime Minister responded to a post by the Union Minister referencing the milestone and reiterated the Government's commitment to expand rooftop solar adoption further. The announcement, dated 23 February 2026, was presented as a sign of momentum in India's clean energy journey and as an encouragement to households to consider rooftop solutions. Officials said further policy support and streamlined procedures are intended to sustain and accelerate uptake among households.
