PM Modi Inaugurates SGEL One GW Bikaner Solar Project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) One GW Bikaner solar project, marking the commissioning of a large-scale renewable installation. The project includes an initial trial run of 241.77 megawatt (MW) capacity at Bikaner which was completed before commercial commissioning. SGEL commissioned Phase I of the 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project, with completion recorded on 31 March 2025. The capacity is operational and the company has indicated a Commercial Operation Date on the second of April 2025.

SJVN, a Navratna central public sector enterprise under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power, has an installed capacity of 4,196.5 MW and operates two transmission lines spanning a combined length of 123 kilometres. The transmission infrastructure was developed to evacuate the output from the solar park and to integrate it with regional grids. The deployment reflects the firm ability to manage generation and grid connectivity for large projects.

The 1,000 MW facility was scheduled for full commissioning by 30 September 2025 and Phase I brings a significant share of that capacity into service ahead of that timetable. The trial run and early commissioning steps allow the operator to validate performance parameters and begin delivering power to the grid. The project contributes to Rajasthan renewable capacity and supports broader national targets for clean energy expansion.

SGEL will proceed with remaining construction and commissioning activities while operational units deliver generation and help meet demand in the region. The completion of Phase I and formal commercial milestones are expected to strengthen the company project pipeline and reinforce investor and stakeholder confidence. Continued integration work on transmission and balance of plant will remain a focus as the development progresses.
