Nalco Launches IA91 Grade Aluminium Alloy Ingot

National Aluminium Company Limited, a Navratna central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Mines, launched a new IA91 grade aluminium alloy ingot on 25 February 2026 at its Kolkata Stockyard. The launch was led by the director for commercial operations, with senior company officials in attendance. The disclosure was made through a press release issued by the corporate communication department. The company said the launch underscores its focus on downstream product development and customer oriented solutions.

IA91 is a high performance silicon based casting alloy engineered to deliver an optimal balance of castability, mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. The alloy has been developed for gravity die casting and low pressure die casting techniques and is intended for applications in the automotive, electrical and power equipment, industrial sectors and foundries. The material properties are expected to meet the demands of advanced casting applications. The specification is intended to offer consistent performance across batch production and to facilitate predictable machining outcomes.

NALCO indicated that the new product forms part of an expanding range of value added offerings designed to support downstream industries. The chairman and managing director conveyed congratulations to the production and marketing teams and stated that the broadened product portfolio demonstrates the company's ongoing commitment to delivering quality. Company officials noted that the launch aligns with strategic priorities to enhance product mix and promote higher value realisations.

Distribution of the IA91 ingot will be handled through existing stockyards and marketing channels with information also available on the company website. The development is likely to provide foundries and component manufacturers with a domestically produced silicon based alloy alternative and to support efforts towards localisation and industrial competitiveness. Market feedback and internal trials are expected to inform incremental refinements to ensure wider industry acceptance. The corporate communication department issued the formal announcement.

Operational Excellence Redefined!

Operational excellence in cement has moved far beyond the old pursuit of ‘more tonne’. The new benchmark is smarter, cleaner, more reliable production—delivered with discipline across process, people and data. In an industry where energy can account for nearly 30 per cent of manufacturing cost, even marginal gains translate into meaningful value. As Dr SB Hegde, Professor, Jain College of Engineering & Technology, Hubli and Visiting Professor, Pennsylvania State University, USA, puts it, “Operational excellence… is no longer about producing more. It is about producing smarter, cleane..
