PM Modi unveils mega development projects in Tiruchirappalli

In an endeavour to promote inclusive development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a range of development projects valued at over Rs 200 billion in Tiruchirappalli. Following a convocation event at Bharathidasan University, PM Modi was honoured by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin at a public gathering in the city.

Addressing the audience, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia praised PM Modi's leadership, highlighting the transformation of airports into not just travel hubs but also catalysts for economic growth. He emphasised the democratisation of civil aviation, making air travel accessible to every citizen, echoing the Prime Minister's vision of ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, can experience air travel.

Subsequently, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the new terminal building at Trichy airport, developed at a cost exceeding Rs 11 billion. The state-of-the-art two-level international terminal has the capacity to serve over 44 lakh passengers annually, with facilities designed for passenger convenience. Tiruchirappalli International Airport is now the second-largest in Tamil Nadu for international passenger traffic.

The Prime Minister also dedicated several railway projects, including the doubling of rail lines, electrification projects, and initiatives to enhance rail capacity. Additionally, he inaugurated road projects aimed at improving connectivity and facilitating faster travel in the region.

Furthermore, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for significant road development projects, including a four-lane road connecting Mugaiyur to Marakkanam, enhancing connectivity to ports and world heritage sites. The inauguration of General Cargo Berth-II at Kamarajar Port is anticipated to strengthen trade, boosting economic growth and employment.

Projects in the petroleum and natural gas sectors, such as the development of a natural gas pipeline and laying of POL pipelines, were initiated to meet energy requirements and stimulate employment in the region.

As part of his visit, Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated the 500-bed Boys' Hostel 'AMETHYST' at the National Institute of Technology in Tiruchirappalli. His itinerary includes visits to Lakshadweep and Kerala over two days, further emphasising the government's commitment to comprehensive development across regions.
