Sona Comstar Reaches 500 Million Gears And 10 Million Assemblies

Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd, known as Sona Comstar, has reached the production milestones of 500 million (mn) differential gears and 10 million (mn) differential assemblies since its inception, reinforcing its position as a global driveline solutions provider. The company reported that the most recent 100 mn gears were produced within the last two years, reflecting sustained growth and customer demand. Production and assembly activities are based at its Gurugram and Pune plants with additional manufacturing capacity added in Manesar.

Sona Comstar designs and manufactures differential assemblies, precision-forged differential gears and other driveline components for battery electric vehicles, passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and off-highway vehicles. The company estimated an 8.7 per cent global market share in differential gears in calendar year 2025, up from 4.5 per cent in 2019, indicating growing global relevance and deeper customer relationships. Precision forging began at Gurugram in 1999 and expanded to Pune in 2005, followed by a steady acceleration in output through the 2010s and early 2020s.

Historical milestones included crossing 100 mn gears in 2013 and 200 mn in early 2018, with the next 100 mn manufactured over three years and the 400 mn milestone achieved within a further two and a half years. On assemblies, production started at Gurugram in 2008, expanded to Pune in 2014 and commenced at a new plant in Manesar in 2019. The company produced its one mn milestone for differential assemblies in 2017 and reached five mn assemblies by 2023, with the subsequent five mn completed in less than three years.

The Group Chief Executive, Vivek Vikram Singh, said the milestones demonstrated the scale built over years, a commitment to engineering excellence and the trust placed by customers, suppliers and employees. He indicated that the company will remain focused on innovation, expanding integrated driveline capabilities and delivering solutions that meet evolving needs across electric and conventional platforms. Backed by research and development and engineering capabilities, Sona Comstar intends to continue developing advanced technologies for global original equipment manufacturers and to support its growth trajectory.
