IGBC Launches 32nd Chapter in Ranchi to Drive Green Building Growth

The CII Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has launched its 32nd Chapter in Ranchi to accelerate Jharkhand’s transition towards sustainable and resilient urban infrastructure. The launch event, held on September 6 at Radisson Blu Hotel, brought together government officials, industry leaders, and sustainability experts.

Sunil Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Urban Development & Housing Department, Government of Jharkhand, said, “The launch of the IGBC Ranchi Chapter marks a significant step in Jharkhand’s urban development journey. The state is committed to creating a policy environment that encourages green practices, fosters innovation, and prioritises citizen well-being.” He also indicated that existing government buildings, smaller projects, and affordable housing could be brought under green certification frameworks.

C Shekar Reddy, National Vice-Chairman, IGBC, noted that the chapter would enable Jharkhand’s real estate and infrastructure sectors to embrace sustainability as both an imperative and an opportunity. Ar. Rajiv Chadda, Chairman, IGBC Ranchi Chapter, said the vision was to make green building the “new normal” across the state. Co-Chairman Piyush More emphasised that the chapter would serve as a support system and innovation hub for stakeholders.

The event featured a panel discussion on “Local Aspirations and Way Forward Towards a Greener Built Jharkhand,” with experts from government, academia, and industry, followed by a technical session showcasing sustainable materials and technologies from leading companies.

The IGBC Ranchi Chapter aims to position the state as a green building leader in eastern India by fostering energy-efficient, low-carbon, and climate-resilient construction practices aligned with national sustainability goals.
