BRO Initiates Phase 3 of India-China Border Roads Project

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has commenced Phase 3 of the India-China border roads project, a significant initiative aimed at bolstering strategic connectivity along the border. This phase involves the construction and upgrading of crucial road networks to improve accessibility and operational efficiency in these remote areas.

The project, which is a priority for national security, focuses on developing infrastructure that can withstand the harsh climatic conditions and challenging terrains of the region. The enhanced road network is expected to facilitate the movement of troops and equipment, thereby strengthening India's defensive capabilities.

BRO's Director General, Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhary, emphasised the strategic importance of this phase, noting that the upgraded infrastructure would significantly enhance the operational readiness of the armed forces. He also highlighted the role of advanced engineering solutions in overcoming the geographical challenges posed by the region.

The third phase includes constructing new roads and upgrading existing ones, with a focus on ensuring all-weather connectivity. This development is part of a broader plan to improve the logistical capabilities along the northern and eastern borders, which have been areas of strategic concern.

In addition to military advantages, the improved infrastructure is expected to benefit the local communities by providing better access to essential services and economic opportunities. Implementation Status of Jal Jeevan Mission

Since August 2019 the Government has implemented Jal Jeevan Mission to provide assured potable water through household tap connections in rural India. At the start of the mission only 32.3 million (mn) rural households, representing 16.7 per cent, were reported to have tap water connections. States and union territories have reported that 125.8 mn additional rural households have since been provided with tap connections.
