MoRTH to construct electric highway from Delhi to Jaipur

Minister of Road Transport and Highway Nitin Gadkari told the media that his ministry is in discussions with a foreign firm to build an electric highway from Delhi to Jaipur.

While evaluating the progress of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (DME) at Dausa, Rajasthan, Gadkari told the media that like electric railway engines, trucks and buses will also be powered by electricity.

Gadkari said that as a transport minister, he took a resolution to bring an end to petrol and diesel use in the nation.

On Thursday, Gadkari reviewed the work progress of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, which is likely to lessen the travel time between the national capital and the financial hub from about 24 hours to 12 hours and reduce the distance by 130 km.

The 1,380 km long Delhi Mumbai expressway will be the longest in India and would cost Rs 98,000 crore.

The eight-lane expressway will comprise Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Gujarat.
