At the inauguration of two flyovers in Dibrugarh on Sunday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that Numaligarh-Dibrugarh stretch of National Highway-37 is progressing as planned and is set to be complete by December 31, 2025. The segment is a vital component of the Guwahati-Dibrugarh high-speed corridor, an initiative aimed at improving connectivity across Assam. The ELF currently being constructed at the Moran bypass is planned to span 3.5 km. It will be located 40 km from Dibrugarh and will function as an emergency landing strip for military aircraft and aid in disaster response operations thereby enhancing national security and safety in the area. It will be designed to accommodate fighter jets such as Sukhois and Tejas, as well as transport aircraft like Hercules and Antonov AN-32.

According to government officials, the 39.7 km segment between Numaligarh and Jorhat was completed on March 15th of this year.
