Officials said the corporation will need to submit a formal request to obtain the land on lease if it is to take up long term maintenance.

Revenue authorities maintained that procedural norms had been followed during the takeover even as residents continued to question the timing of measures to provide alternative access. Southern Railway has agreed to construct a three-metre wide tarred pucca road along Vattavila Suresh Road in Thiruvananthapuram after protests by local residents and representations by the Nemom Action Council.
