Ajit Pawar Unveils 75-Km Rail Plan to Ease Pune Traffic

In a major boost to infrastructure and connectivity, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday announced a comprehensive new railway project covering 75 kilometres across Pune and adjoining regions. The project aims to ease traffic congestion and support industrial growth by offering a robust public transport alternative.
The proposed route will extend from Talegaon to Chakan, Chakan to Wagholi, then on to Uruli, and finally connect with the Solapur–Pune Road. An additional line will link Miraj Road with the existing Miraj railway route, enhancing connectivity in western Maharashtra.
Pawar confirmed that instructions for land acquisition have already been issued to the Collector’s office, paving the way for the next phase of development.
A key feature of the project is a new line branching out from Wagholi and passing through Vadhu Budruk, Shikrapur, Koregaon Bhima, Ranjangaon, and Pimpalner, before ending at Ahilyanagar. This section will include eight stations and directly cater to major industrial areas such as Ranjangaon MIDC, Tupewadi, Chas, and parts of Ahmednagar district.
“These railway routes will provide essential public transport options for thousands of commuters and industrial workers while easing pressure on Pune’s overburdened roads,” said Pawar. He also emphasised the network’s potential to drive regional economic development through improved connectivity.
In a separate post on social media platform X, Pawar shared updates on a review meeting focused on the Morwadi and Kasarwadi Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) under the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. Discussions included proposed AI-integrated courses and initiatives to modernise skills training. He also reviewed progress on educational infrastructure and ongoing development works in the sector.
