Mumbai metro line 3 nears completion; Aarey to BKC services imminent

The Mumbai Metro Line-3 project is nearing the launch of phase 1 passenger services between Aarey and BKC. It is reported that phase 1, which is 90% complete, is expected to commence in a few months, followed by phase 2 six months later. It has been stated that the line aims to cater to 17 lakh passengers daily, offering connectivity to significant business centres and amenities. Before the commencement of passenger services, thorough trials between BKC and Aarey are being conducted to ensure safety standards are met.

It has been informed that integrated train trial runs are currently in progress for Phase 1 operations, covering a 12.44km stretch with 10 stations, including nine underground stations and one at-grade terminal station at Aarey.

Regarding the Metro Line-3 (Colaba to SEEPZ), it has been mentioned that Phase 1, from Aarey to BKC, will have a frequency of 6.5 minutes, while Phase 2, from BKC to Cuffe Parade, will have a frequency of 3.2 minutes. The trains are expected to carry approximately 2500 passengers at a time. The line is set to provide connectivity to six major business and employment centers, namely Nariman Point, Cuffe Parade, Fort, Lower Parel, BKC, and SEEPZ/MIDC. Moreover, it will facilitate easy access to over 30 educational institutes, 13 hospitals, 14 religious places, and more than 30 recreational facilities.

The trial runs between BKC and Aarey are currently ongoing, with a focus on validating various systems, including signal telecommunication, rolling stock, and track traction. Although details concerning the fare structure are yet to be disclosed, transport experts believe that the project has the potential to revolutionise the city's commuting experience.
