New Metro Corridor Through Central Vista To Benefit 60,000 Employees

The Delhi government has approved three new metro corridors under Phase V(A), including a route from RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha via Central Vista, a line linking Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj and an Aerocity connection to Indira Gandhi Domestic Terminal one. The corridors form part of an expansion intended to improve connectivity to administrative and transport hubs across the capital. Officials described the works as central to easing congestion and improving access for commuters and civil servants.

The RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha corridor will extend for nine point nine one three kilometres and include nine proposed stations. The alignment will pass through the Central Vista precinct and locations such as Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, CCS Buildings, India Gate, the War Memorial–High Court complex, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam and Indraprastha. Planners expect the route to provide direct links to key cultural and heritage sites while serving daily travel needs.

Officials estimate that about 60,000 government employees will benefit from the new corridor along with nearly 0.2 million (mn) daily commuters. The project cost is Rs 95.704 billion (bn), with the Delhi government contributing Rs 23.3724 billion (bn). Authorities have confirmed that the RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha corridor will be incorporated into an extended Magenta Line rather than the Green Line as earlier proposed, increasing the Magenta Line's total length to around 89 kilometres and making it longer than the Pink Line.

The Krishna Park Extension to RK Ashram Marg stretch of the Magenta Line is expected to open for the public in phases in the next financial year while the RK Ashram to Indraprastha section is likely to become operational by 2028. The entire Phase V(A) programme is scheduled for completion in 2028. The Chief Minister thanked the Prime Minister and said the project supports her seven-C vision for transport and ambitions for environmental protection and net-zero emissions.
