TIDCO Floats Tender for Tiruchy Dry Port Feasibility Study

The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) has floated a tender to appoint a consultant for preparing a Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR) for the proposed Multi-Modal Logistics Hub (MMLH) in Tiruchy. The project was announced in the 2026-27 budget and declared on August 31, 2026, by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay under Rule 110 in the Assembly.

The proposed hub is envisaged as a dry port intended to strengthen logistics infrastructure in central Tamil Nadu. Under the tender, the appointed consultant will identify and recommend a suitable site of at least 30 acres within Tiruchy district and assess cargo demand, connectivity, stakeholder requirements and the project's economic viability.

The MMLH is also expected to include digital logistics systems integrated with the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) and the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. The plan includes feeder collection and consolidation centres in surrounding districts such as Villupuram, Salem and Madurai, along with phased expansion and value-added logistics services.

The tender process will start with a pre-proposal meeting on October 22, while bids can be submitted until November 12. The DFR must be completed within 28 weeks of the contract being signed, excluding the time TIDCO requires for reviews and approvals.

Tiruchy MP Durai Vaiko said the district administration had already identified a couple of possible locations, but the final site would be selected only after the DFR was completed. He also said the Centre had indicated its willingness to take up the project, which is expected to reduce freight costs and transit time to six major ports: Chennai, Kamarajar, Kattupalli, VO Chidambaranar, Cochin and Vizhinjam.
