Govt approves new building construction for Puducherry legislation
The government has approved the construction of a new assembly building for the Puducherry legislative assembly.
On Thursday, the officials said that the Centre has agreed to allocate Rs 200 crore in the current fiscal year and Rs 100 crore in the next fiscal years for the construction of the new legislative building. The Puducherry legislation is currently operating in a building constructed by the French and the Secretariat in another building on the beach road. Prior to this, there was a demand for the construction of an integrated assembly complex constituting the Chief Secretariate at Rs 310 crore. R Selvam, Speaker of the assembly, met the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman and submitted a letter from the CM N Rangaswamy, wanting financial support from the Speaker of Lok Sabha, Om Birla. For the new assembly construction, the government's land at Thattanchavady was identified, which was appraised by the Centre and then received approval for the building construction.
