India Sets Record for Rosatom North Pole Contest

India has set a new record for entries to Rosatom’s Icebreaker of Knowledge initiative, a global scientific and educational expedition to the North Pole. The sixth edition of the project, which promotes nuclear technology and natural sciences, concluded its qualifying round for foreign participants on May 27, 2025. 
Over 3,500 students aged 14 to 16 from twenty countries participated in the online qualifying round hosted on the Go Arctic platform. Kyrgyzstan, India, and Bangladesh contributed the highest number of applications this year. The competition included scientific quizzes, webinars, and a final video submission on nuclear technology’s impact in their countries. 
Finalists will be selected by an international jury and announced on June 20, 2025. Selected students will join the 50 Let Pobedy nuclear icebreaker expedition to the North Pole, commemorating the eightieth anniversary of Russia’s nuclear industry and the five hundredth anniversary of the Northern Sea Route. 
Since 2018, Rosatom has led infrastructure development for the Northern Sea Route. The initiative highlights Russia’s role in Arctic exploration and commitment to education, clean energy, and nuclear innovation.
