Manipur Chief Minister Begins Ukhrul Outreach and Reviews Projects

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh undertook a road journey to Ukhrul district on April 17 as part of ongoing outreach to strengthen coordination with remote communities and address infrastructure issues. He made a first stop at Shangkai village on the Imphal–Ukhrul road where he engaged with residents and was told by women from the Kuki community about the lack of reliable drinking water, which he said he would prioritise on return to Imphal. The party included Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and senior officials.

Singh later visited Thawai Kuki village where a large gathering highlighted challenges relating to road connectivity, water supply and access to healthcare services. The Chief Minister reiterated the government commitment to improving basic infrastructure and indicated that the concerns would be addressed on priority. In a statement shared on social media he said the government remained focused on ensuring delivery of essential services and equitable development.

Officials reported that the Ukhrul visit followed similar journeys to Jiribam and Senapati districts along key national highways as part of a broader initiative to enhance grassroots engagement. Singh was also to halt at Ramva to review progress on a National Highway project and to inspect an ongoing rigid pavement construction site. He was scheduled to hold meetings with Tangkhul community leaders and district officials, including the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP), at the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) conference hall.

The programme included the planned inauguration of the Shirui Heritage Project at Shirui village and further inspections of local works. Officials indicated that the tour was expected to conclude after a meeting with local stakeholders. The outreach was presented by the administration as part of efforts to ensure inclusive development across remote parts of the state.
