SCLR Phase Two Nears Completion As MMRDA Reviews Final Works

The Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) Phase Two is nearing completion as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) reviews final works on the corridor. The authority is preparing the route to join earlier sections to form a seamless, signal-free corridor of nearly 11 km that will improve east-west connectivity across the city. The corridor will link the Eastern Express Highway (EEH), Western Express Highway (WEH) and the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) with neighbourhoods including Santacruz, Vakola, Kalina, Kurla and Chembur.

The project comprises multiple elevated sections, connector arms and key interchanges designed to reduce congestion on important arterial roads and to improve traffic flow across adjoining suburbs. The newly completed Bandra-Kurla Complex–Vakola arm plays a crucial role in linking these sections despite its shorter length and is expected to relieve pressure at major junctions. The BKC–Vakola arm has a total length of one point four km including 500 metres of four-lane elevated carriageway and 900 metres of two-lane connecting arms.

MMRDA officials indicated that the completion of Phase Two is expected to reduce travel time by nearly 35 minutes for commuters who use the corridor, which should shorten cross-city journeys for many road users. The authority described the project as an important step towards creating a more integrated urban mobility system for Mumbai and towards improving east-west road connectivity in the metropolis. Officials said work is at an advanced stage as final inspections and finishing touches are reviewed ahead of full operation.

Once fully operational, the corridor will provide seamless connectivity between the EEH, the WEH, BKC and key neighbourhoods such as Santacruz, Kalina and Kurla, which is expected to ease pressure on alternative routes and junctions. The authority is reviewing finishing works, safety features and signage before opening and will coordinate traffic management plans for the transition. Stakeholders said the unified route is intended to support future urban mobility initiatives across the city.
