Hindalco to Invest Rs 5.86 Billion in Andhra Aluminium Plant

Hindalco Industries is set to establish a new integrated aluminium facility in Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of Rs 5.86 billion, according to a report by The Economic Times. The plant will supply high-grade aluminium for the production of iPhone chassis, marking Andhra Pradesh’s debut in Apple’s global supply chain.
The proposal is slated for approval by the State Investment Promotion Board, and the plant is expected to begin operations by March 2027. Over the next four years, the facility is likely to generate more than 600 jobs, and will be developed under the Andhra Pradesh Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy 2025–30.
Aluminium, known for its strength, durability, and lightweight properties, is essential in producing mobile phone chassis and enclosures. By supplying this key material for Apple devices, the new plant will boost India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is actively promoting Andhra Pradesh as a hub for iPhone manufacturing, and Kuppam’s location offers strategic advantages—it lies just 120 km from Bengaluru’s Devanahalli, where Foxconn, Apple’s largest contract manufacturer, recently launched its second-biggest facility outside China.
At Hindalco’s 66th Annual General Meeting, Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla reaffirmed the company’s strategy of strengthening both upstream and downstream operations. The next phase will see accelerated upstream expansion, alongside continued growth in value-added downstream products. The Kuppam project aligns with this broader vision, representing a key step in expanding Hindalco’s footprint in high-tech aluminium applications.
