DGCA starts working groups to create eVTOL rules

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has established internal working groups to study various aspects of operating electric air taxis and develop appropriate regulations, the government announced. This move aligns with the International Civil Aviation Organisation's (ICAO) efforts, as it has set up the Advanced Air Mobility Study Group in response to rapid technological advances and their potential impact on the aviation ecosystem.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply that the DGCA's internal working groups will focus on studying regulations from other countries, gathering input from industry experts and academia, and developing criteria for enabling eVTOL operations in India.

Mohol added that no dedicated budgetary provisions have been allocated for eVTOLs concerning indigenous research and startups in the country.
