Khammam to have three new greenfield highways

Three new greenfield highways are being planned in the Khammam district, covering a distance of 100 km costing Rs 2,200 crore.

As part of this, a four-lane access-controlled greenfield highway portion of national highway (NH) 365BG (Khammam - Devarapalle segment) would be built from Thallampadu village to Somavaram village over a distance of 33 km for Rs 772 crore.

Besides that, under the Khammam-Devarapalle portion of NH-365BG, four-lane access-controlled greenfield roads would be built between Somavaram village to Chintagudem village (29 km) for Rs 637 crore and from Chintagudem village to Thumburu village (42 km) for Rs 804 crore.

The green motorways (Plantation, Beautification, and Maintenance) Policy is being used to build these greenfield highways.

As part of this, the implementing agency must plant bushes beside the route, which act as natural air pollution sinks. In addition to turfing and landscaping, the chosen agency would be responsible for planting attractive trees and shrubs in strategic locations.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has designated competent authorities to acquire land for constructing a greenfield regional highway linking Sangareddy, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri through Medak and Siddipet on Hyderabad's northern outskirts.

The Centre has set up Rs 1,556 crore for the four-laning of two existing lanes on NH-365BB between Suryapet and Khammam (old SH-42).

This 59 km length is critical for the state since it connects Telangana to Andhra Pradesh's ports. Around 75% of the work has been performed so far, and the project is likely to be completed by September.
