MoRTH constructs 12.3k km highways in FY24

In the fiscal year 2023-24, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had completed the construction of 12,349 kilometres of national highways, marking the second highest achievement in its history. It was noted that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) had previously set a record by constructing 13,327 kilometres of national highways in 2020-21.

Comparatively, the construction figures for national highways were 10,331 kilometres in 2022-23, slightly lower than the 10,457 kilometres constructed in 2021-22. In the year 2019-20, highways measuring 10,237 kilometres were built.

Additionally, the official mentioned that in 2023-24, the ministry had awarded contracts for 8,581 national highway projects.

Regarding initiatives, the government had initiated a pilot project aimed at offering cashless treatment to victims of road accidents. According to the official, accident victims would be eligible for cashless treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh under this scheme.
