NHAI And Aggregators Sign MoU To Boost Highway Safety

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) signed a memorandum of understanding with commercial vehicle aggregator platforms at NHAI headquarters in New Delhi to improve ease of commuting for drivers and fleet operators on National Highways. The MoU will leverage interoperable, technology driven solutions to enhance safety, efficiency and user experience. The signing was attended by the NHAI chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav, the IHMCL chairman and managing director Vishal Chauhan, and representatives from five aggregator platforms, and the NHAI chairman presented Vishisht Saarthi recognition to notable drivers.

Aggregator platforms will integrate the Rajmargyatra App to deliver timely safety alerts on accident prone stretches, diversions, construction zones, stray cattle and adverse weather, and will promote voluntary registration while sharing periodic usage metrics and feedback. Integration aims to provide actionable information directly to drivers and fleet operators to reduce risk and support route planning.

The initiative will promote Jan Bhagidari through a driver led reporting mechanism that enables geo tagged reports of issues such as potholes, damaged crash barriers, non functional streetlights and faded road markings, with reports integrated into the Rajmargyatra ecosystem for centralised resolution. Platforms will also include a Call 1033 feature to provide one click access to the National Highway Helpline, allowing consenting users to share geo location to speed up ambulance response and obtain hospital information.

The MoU provides for dissemination of National Highway safety awareness videos covering avoidance of over speeding, wrong side driving, lane discipline and prompt use of the 1033 helpline during emergencies, with content delivered via in app engagement modules and shared participation metrics. The Vishisht Saarthi recognition programme will identify drivers for certificates and digital badges. Platforms will enable structured feedback on toll plaza operations and wayside amenities and will facilitate escalation of FASTag related concerns for timely review, reinforcing greater transparency and service quality across the National Highway network.
