NHAI Extends Six-Laning of NH-65 to Vijayawada West Bypass

Along the Vijayawada–Hyderabad corridor, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has revised its earlier plans and agreed to extend the six-laning project on NH-65 up to the Vijayawada West Bypass near Gollapudi, according to the Times of India.
Previously, the project was set to conclude at the Amaravati Outer Ring Road (ORR) alignment.
This change was confirmed in a letter from the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, addressed to Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni).
The minister noted that the six-laning will now cover the stretch from KM 40 near the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road to KM 266 at the Vijayawada West Bypass, totalling 226 km, compared to the earlier plan of 198 km.
Gadkari acknowledged the initial intent to limit land acquisition, but a stakeholder meeting chaired by Chinni on 13 June highlighted the necessity of extending the six-laning.
"Accordingly, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) consultant has been directed to prepare the alignment and DPR for the entire stretch," Gadkari stated, citing Chinni’s letter dated 19 June.
NHAI Andhra Pradesh regional manager RK Singh said the DPR is expected to be ready by the end of August.
“Once the DPR is received, it will be forwarded to the NHAI headquarters in Delhi, following which tenders will be floated and widening works will commence,” he was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
The extended six-lane upgrade is anticipated to significantly reduce travel time between the twin capitals of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
