NHAI Initiates Chattergala Tunnel Project in Jammu & Kashmir

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has commenced work on the Chattergala Tunnel project in Jammu & Kashmir, marking a significant step towards enhancing connectivity and infrastructure in the region. This strategic tunnel, located along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, is expected to bolster transportation efficiency and strengthen the state's road network resilience, especially during adverse weather conditions.

The Chattergala Tunnel project aims to provide all-weather connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar, reducing travel time and enhancing safety for commuters. The tunnel, with its advanced engineering features, will facilitate smoother movement of goods and passengers, contributing to economic growth and regional development.

Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, highlighted the project's importance in improving accessibility and connectivity to remote areas of Jammu & Kashmir. He emphasised NHAI's commitment to expediting the construction of critical infrastructure projects that promote regional integration and socio-economic progress.

The construction of the Chattergala Tunnel involves complex engineering challenges due to the mountainous terrain and geological conditions. NHAI plans to deploy state-of-the-art technologies and stringent safety measures to ensure the timely completion of the project without compromising quality standards.

Once operational, the tunnel is expected to significantly enhance travel convenience for residents and tourists, supporting the tourism industry and fostering greater economic opportunities in Jammu & Kashmir. NHAI's initiative underscores the government's dedication to advancing infrastructure development in the region, aiming to improve overall quality of life and promote inclusive growth across diverse communities.
