Nitin Gadkari Reviews National Highway Quality in Uttar Pradesh

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari reviewed the quality and maintenance progress of 11,672 km of national highways in Uttar Pradesh during a meeting held in New Delhi. The review was convened in response to feedback received via media and social media and examined project timelines, quality controls and maintenance regimes across the network. The minister directed a systemic appraisal of ongoing works and emphasised the need for clearer accountability at each project stage to ensure standards are met.

During the meeting the minister emphasised timely execution, strict adherence to quality standards and the adoption of advanced technologies to enhance durability and performance. He urged the integration of modern materials, digital monitoring systems and improved testing protocols to reduce defects and accelerate delivery. The narrative framed robust road networks as essential for strengthening connectivity, supporting regional trade and stimulating economic activity across urban and rural areas.

The minister also instructed officials to ensure comprehensive monsoon preparedness by implementing preventive measures and establishing effective response mechanisms. Emphasis was placed on routine drainage maintenance, timely repairs of pavement distress and rapid deployment plans for emergency restoration to preserve road safety and durability. The meeting called for coordination among state authorities, contractors and agency staff to prioritise high-risk stretches and allocate resources where required.

Participants included the Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta and Harsh Malhotra together with officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and project contractors. Officials were asked to submit detailed progress reports and timelines and to adopt standardised quality assessment protocols for independent verification. The minister directed periodic reviews and public reporting of corrective actions to build confidence among commuters and stakeholders.
