The Bicholim bypass road is 90% complete and will open this year

90% of the construction on the new four-lane Bicholim bypass road is already finished, and it will shortly be available for traffic. Residents of Bicholim might anticipate an improvement in traffic congestion once this Rs. 0.90 billion bypass becomes operational. Later this year, it is anticipated that all heavy trucks using the interstate route?which now passes through Bicholim town?will be rerouted via this bypass. Residents of Bicholim, who now experience traffic congestion, would benefit from this.

Assmas Constructions, a Goa-based contractor, is handling this state-funded project. The 4.6 km bypass will go from Bordem to Sarvan in Bicholim. As planned, this state roadway will be finished this year. Meanwhile, work on the other bypass road project in Bicholim taluka at Assonora is yet to take off. Last year, PWD floated the tender for the construction of the Assonora bypass, worth Rs 1.60 billion. Fully funded by the state government for now, the 2.9-km-long Assonora bypass will connect Assonora Market and Shirgao Junction. MVR Group has bagged this project, but the work has yet to start.

It is state highway 1, and work on the project was expected to begin after the 2023 monsoon. It is expected to be completed in 18 months. The land acquisition for the project has already been completed. The bypass will include a major flyover and a few minor bridges as well. This year, as planned, this state highway will be finished.
