17 km rail route in Indore to be operational by September 2023

A 17 km metro rail route in Indore in Madhya Pradesh will be operational by September 2023, incidentally, a few months before the state is scheduled to have Assembly polls.

The aim is to achieve a 17 km corridor and begin it for public use by September 2023, Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation managing director Chhavi Bharadwaj told the media on Monday.

Bharadwaj said that some setbacks in the work had been overcome, and it had made notable progress since August 15. Meanwhile, Indore's BJP MP Shankar Lalwani, during Bharadwaj's visit here to examine works, recommended that the city, like Nagpur in neighbouring Maharashtra, should hold a double-decker viaduct from Mhow to Dewas Naka.

He said that the double-decker viaduct could have a flyover on one level and the rail line over it so that every inch of the densely populated urban area can be used.

On September 14, 2019, former chief minister Kamal Nath laid the foundation stone for the Rs 7,500.80 crore metro rail project's first phase.
